Balance is Key

I spent 90 euros on a ticket for a techno festival, and I wasn’t sure if I would even go there. It was the yearly Time Warp festival in Mannheim, and this year it was special due to celebrating its 30th anniversary. The festival started on Friday at 9 pm and lasted until Sunday, theoretically providing 30 hours of non-stop techno music. I was there with two close friends of mine for about 5 hours. We could have stayed there until 8:30 am, but due to being in the last phase before our final exams, Linus and I decided to catch the train home at 2 am because the next one would have been at 4 am, which was far too late given the circumstances. I didn’t drink because I told myself to stay away from alcohol until my exams were over. As I mentioned before, I got there with mixed feelings because I was extremely tired and my legs were sore from training. Still, I decided to go for it; I could have gone home if it became boring. But it wasn’t. We arrived at the place, checked in, and made it through with a little bit of complication because I had to throw away my medicine due to the rule that glass was prohibited. Fortunately, I need to buy new medicine because of the expiration date.

After that, we stored our jackets and t-shirts in a locker and went directly to the festival. The ticket for Friday included access to three floors. The first and the second floor were in the same building, both separated by a soundproof wall. The third floor was in a separate building and seemed like a cave, which ended up being my favorite. The people there came from all over Europe, the majority from France and the Netherlands. The atmosphere was astonishing despite being approached over 30 times by shady Eastern European dealers asking if I wanted any drugs. Some things annoyed me, but this is normal for a festival, I guess. People dressed half-naked, drugs all over the place were a funny thing to see. Not my world, but it was still a nice experience. To my surprise, it was better than I thought, and I will be there next year without any restrictions. I talked to my friends, and we are eager to try out the Saturday ticket next year. I always listened to techno, but now I've become a huge fan of techno festivals. We already decided to go to more techno festivals in the future, especially in foreign countries like Brazil.

I’m so grateful that I went there and decided to go despite being tired and having my first exam in 11 days. I wouldn’t have had the experience if I decided to stay home yesterday. It was even refreshing to be there because I went home at 2 am and didn’t drink alcohol. The point I’m trying to make here is that you need balance in your life from time to time. It isn’t healthy to be obsessed with studying and staying healthy all the time. You only live once, so why not enjoy yourself from time to time?

Whenever you feel that you are lacking something, you might need balance in your life. For me, balance means working hard towards your goals and enjoying yourself sometimes without forgetting your mission and goals in life.

I wish you all a nice day.
